Vimanmek Mansion Museum Worlds Largest Teakwood Building

As written in history Vimanmek Palace became deserted after the death of King Rama V where the royal family moved into the Grand Palace. This palace was occasionally used by King Rama VI who at the end of his reign gave permission to his wife to take up residence in a part of Vimanmek Mansion. She left the palace after the death of the king and King Rama used the palace for a short period. In the early 1980s it was renovated by the queen of Thailand and announced as a museum in honour of king Rama V and as representation of Thai heritage which can be viewed by generations to come.

The architectural design of this mansion depicts the western influence where there are two wings angled to the right that are 60 meters long and 20 meters high. The upper floors are made out of teak while the ground floor is built out of brick and cement. The whole museum has 81 rooms out of which 31 are exhibition rooms that are open to the public. The ambiance of the ancient past is created especially in bedrooms bathrooms and audience chambers. Porcelain small artifacts nielloware glassware and gold silver ware that were in use during the rule of king Rama V are also on display at this museum.

The royal palace is not the only building that is to be seen in this mansion the other surrounding buildings also add more colour to the area. The palace is also surrounded by water on all sides; to the east is the Klong Rong Mai Hom Fragrant Wood Canal to the north Klong Khab Phaen Krachok Sheet of Glass Canal to the west Klong Rang Ngoen Silver canal and to the south the southern pond Ang Yok. A bridge crosses Ang Yok to Ruan Ton which is a Thai house made from wood as the kings wish to use the house for a nonroyal style of living.

If one is visiting Vimanmek Mansion Museum the ideal place for lodging in a Bangkok service apartment would be Bangkok President Park.
